This was taken with a GoPro Hero 2 which is a fully automatic camera for both photo and video; if you're unsure what they are and do, you've probably seen them on countless videos and if you've seen the Hobbit 2 you've seen the Hero2's bigger brother the Hero3 in the river barrel sequence (the high shutter speed, high sharpness footage at the water level) and I shot a paintball video with it back in May - http://vimeo.com/79834371.
I set the camera to a 0.5 second timelapse mode so it took a photo about every 0.5 seconds (i think from use it's closer to 0.7 seconds). I attached it to my bike helmet with the helmet strap and used all the GoPro arm parts I had to have the camera hanging from the helmet as far out as I could - it looked a bit daft but wearing a GoPro typically does.
I set it going before I left for work and then stopped it once I'd arrived at work, the journey is about 10-15 minutes long depending on traffic (yes traffic still holds up cyclists sometimes) and i had around 1300 photos to filter through. I narrowed these photos down to 19 and then chose my favourite from there.
In post I added contrast, saturation and clarity, I then individually raised the saturation of the oranges, yellows, reds and greens. I also added more contrast manually adjusting the black levels down and the white levels up, and then finally I added in a brush adjustment on the top right where the lens flare is coming from to add to the exposure there. I also added a minor vignette to soften the edges of the image.
